Hidden Search Option in Google

Hidden Search Option in Google

A month ago Twitter reached deals with Bing and Google to provide real time results to the search engines. Microsoft has a deal with Facebook too, while Google is concentrating on delivering personalized results with Google Social Search.

Fresh content recommended by friends is what makes a result relevant in the eyes of a search engine, but non-social freshly indexed results can be seen in Google SERPs by using time frame Search Options: Recent results, Past hour, Past 24 hours, Past week, Past year and Specific date range.

Recent results can show pages that apparently have been indexed just one second before the query was executed.

Omgili blog discovered that when you select any other option from Past hour to Past year in Search Options, a parameter appears in the URL. By manually changing the parameter from qdr:h to qdr:n for minutes, or qdr:s for seconds, it’s possible to reload the page and see almost-real-time options even if they aren’t shown along with the other time and date based options in the left bar.

Adding a number to qdr:n lets you specify how many minutes you want the search to go back to: qdr:n10 will show a SERP of pages indexed in the last 10 minutes.

This particular customization could be interesting to see the latest pages indexed for a specific keyword, as you can see in the image below.
