Free Reputation Management Tools
Monitoring your company name and vanity keywords on social media are activities that you can automate using free online reputation management tools.
Google Alerts sends you an email or updates your RSS feed every time new results about a keyword you are monitoring are found. You can monitor new websites ranking in search results, but also Google News, videos, blogs and public Google Groups.
Technorati offers a keyword based RSS feed (currently unavailable as Small Business Sem found two days ago) that can be a very useful social media monitoring tool for blog results that aren’t indexed in Google Blog Search.
BoardReader offers the same service, but it’s geared to forums and online communities. Forum discussions can be critical in online reputation management and being aware of what’s being said about your company is crucial.
Marty Weintraub wrote a great step by step tutorial on how to build a reputation monitoring dashboard on iGoogle, that integrates Google Alerts, Technorati and BoardReader feeds for effective social media monitoring.
What about Twitter and Real Time Search?
Twitter Lists are a new interesting Twitter feature that could be very useful for online reputation monitoring. Virginia Nussey from Bruceclay.com points out that brands could be included in lists they wouldn’t like to belong to, but in the end the ability to organize lists and monitor Twitter users every time they mention a keyword would make them an invaluable reputation management tool.
Listiti launched a new service that combines the advantages of Twitter Lists with the convenience of Google Alerts, sending you email alerts to notify you when your keyword of choice appears in the lists you selected.
Moreover, Listiti lets you create badges you can publish online to show customized Twitter feeds from Twitter Lists that mention a specific keyword. Listiti badges come with a subscribe button that can be used to promote a list or a Twitter Account.
