Twitter Tweet buttons about to launch, TweetMeme goes down
According to Mashable, on Thursday Twitter will launch the official Tweet button, a convenient way to share webpages and articles, that will also display the URL share counter.
The Tweet button may not be as revolutionary as Facebook’s Like button, but it could become an important ranking signal for real time search engines.
Twitter’s official share button will come in three sizes and it will be highly customizable, but the feature that differentiates the Tweet button from TweetMeme’s Retweet button (used on BeAloud and several other websites) is the comprehensive count of shares and retweets across the social network.
It’s ironic that as information about the new Tweet buttons spreads, many Twitter users noticed that TweetMeme’s button were down (for a short maintenance spell that lasted a few minutes).
