UberVU: Be Uber Informed on What Is Happening on the Social Web.
It might be hard to find what people say on the social web. Fortunately uberVU is here to make your life easier about this. I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Vladimir Oane, the CEO of uberVU, who gave me more information on how the platform works and what it can do for you.
Guillaume Foutry: What is the concept of uberVU?
Vladimir Oane: UberVU provides users with real-time community metrics and analytics. We track conversations around stories that take place across multiple social services (we cover between 20 and 30 of the major services) in close to real-time and extract community analytics from them. Search for a keyword and we can tell you where are the people discussing that keyword, how many of them there are and what are the conversations you should get engaged in.
As opposed to buzz tracking technologies that track mentions of your name or brand, our service is oriented around which people are interacting with your content or content about you and whether you are engaging those people or not. This approach turns the tables on buzz tracking by focusing on measuring and growing your community – building relationships and loyalty with people – rather than maximizing mention count without regard to people or relationships.
G.F: What is your business model?
V.O: Our business model is based on premium subscriptions for both uberVU and the API Context Voice. We offer increased features and services for both things.
G.F: Could you explain what context voice is and how you came to this pint (making your API a distinct product)?
V.O: Context Voice is an open API for finding and tracking reactions to stories across a variety of social media channels (blogs, Twitter, FriendFeed, Digg etc). Being an API means you use it to code your own application or you use the data we provide you with to integrate into your app.
We decided to spin the technology part out of uberVU from 2 reasons:
- First of all, the API seems to have taken on a life of its own. Lots of people want to use it for things we never would have imagined. When we tell people what we do, the first question the ask is usually “Do you have an API?”.
- Because people want to use it to do very different things than we have originally thought, we’ll have to add things in the API that have no relation the uberVu as a product. What uberVu does right now will, in the future, only be a small part of what ContextVoice will offer. That’s one of the reasons why we felt the API needed to be a product on its own.
Now everything we do from a technology perspective is part of Context Voice and uberVU is just one possible application on top of Context Voice API.
G.F: Does the fact that FriendFeed might disappear in a few month going to change things for uberVU? Is there any possibility that Facebook will let you scan some of their elements as they are going to become public?
V.O: We can only hope that will be the case and Facebook will become more open.
G.F: What are the plans of development for the coming months?
V.O: Improve the technology – Context Voice (make it faster and more reliable) and more generally the uberVU experience.
