Apple patents forced advertisements
An article on The New York Times reports on a patent application filed by Apple for a new advertisement technology that would interrupt user’s experience on computers and media players until the user interacts with the device to prove that the ad has been attentively watched.
The new advertisement enforcement technology could work on any screen enabled device: Televisions, computers, iPods, iPhones. The user would be forced to perform a task as simple as pressing a button, or more complex like answering a question about the ad, in order to be able to unfreeze the device.
The so called enforcement routine could have a positive effect in reducing prices of ad supported hardware, or maybe offering operative systems and other software for free, enabling the option to pay a fee to remove the routine from the device.
Would you welcome “free” software and hardware that come at a cost of such obtrusive advertising?
