The Unbearable Lightness of the iPad
It’s time for iPad rumors again. According to Taiwanese information source DigiTimes Research, Apple is going to launch a smaller iPad during the first quarter of 2011.
The iPad mini (or iPod Touch XL?) will sport a 5-7” screen, and will target the mobile device market in a segment currently dominated by internet media tablets manufactured by Archos.
DigiTimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo reveals that the smaller iPad will be priced below US$400. This competitive pricing will make the device more affordable, especially considering that the smaller size won’t make the new iPad suitable for productivity purposes.
A lighter, smaller iPad, will probably diminish the “wow” factor of Apple’s magical, revolutionary device.
On the other hand… it will be easier to carry and to hold, while equally satisfying as a media consumption device (screen quality and resolution could remain the same), considering the typical usage scenarios (I’m not fantasizing about hammocks this time).
