Google Living Stories is the News Revolution

Google Living Stories is the News Revolution

Living Stories is an experimental project developed by Google Labs, The New York Times and The Washington Post, that could shape the future of publishing news online.

The experiment stems from the idea of Living URLs: A news story should reside on a single URL and updates would still be on the same page instead of originating another article on a new page.

In time, links to the one URL page will accumulate and make the most authoritative sources more relevant and rank better in search engine result pages.

This new approach organizes news in a way to make access to all relevant information easy and immediate: A short summary of the whole story is presented along with a stream of latest developments and an interactive timeline. You can quickly navigate and read articles without the need to open multiple pages.

Living Stories remembers your read state: If you’ve visited the page before, you won’t see the summary again but only the updates you didn’t read since your last visit, the other updates will be greyed out.
