Why You Should Have an iPhone App for Your Business
The iPhone is the star of smart phones even if it represents a small portion of mobile phone sales (in the second quarter 2009 Apple sold 5.2m iPhones compared with 268m handsets sold worldwide). However it has a huge impact on the industry as it has showed the way forward in terms of technology and what users expect from this kind of device. Plus it is important to bear on mind the profile of iPhone users: young, connected 24/7 and intense users of social media. It is quite likely most of them are creating and sharing content all over the web which means they also are influencers.
So an application for the iPhone is something you should consider. I am not saying that all the businesses should create one, but they should analyze if having one would bring any value to their activity. Here are the things they should take into consideration:
- Better navigation experience: it makes a huge difference when you use a service through an application or through Safari. It is faster, easier to use and better looking with the application. Even with a website optimized for smart phone use, the application is something that makes people get back to your service.
- The geo targeting capabilities of the iPhone: you are a chain and have a few stores around town: let your potential customers know where you are, how to get to your shop and what you offer today (new range of product, special offer, etc)!
- Increased interactions: As you can reach your customers directly you can offer them a different way to interact with your brand/product/service.
- Branding: Your application might not be centred on your brand, but if you offer valuable content to users they will remember who did that for them.
- Mix it with social media experience: You can build your application with elements such as Facebook Connect that will make it easier for people to log in
- Another revenue stream: Depends on what you do and you have to be careful about it, but you can still charge people for your application.
Here are things that you should take into consideration. If you deem other elements are necessary to include here, please leave a comment.
